Lorenzo Charles "Hick / Charlie" FORREST Obituary
POQUOSON - Lorenzo Charles "Hick" or "Charlie" Forrest, 87, a native and lifelong waterman of Poquoson, passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011.
Among his greatest loves were his family and the water. Hick also enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, family gatherings, and spending time with special friends. He served in the United States Navy during WWII on the U.S.S. Thomas E. Fraser-24, including participation in the surrender at Tokyo Harbor. He was also a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church and the J.O.U.A.M., Yorktown Council #66.
Mr. Forrest was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Etta Forrest; parents, Mary Augusta Topping and Robert Claytor Forrest; brother, Robert H. Forrest; sisters, Virginia Forrest Page and Lucille Forrest Merica; and a stepgrandson, Darrell Hanberry.
He is survived by a twin sister, Charline F. White and husband, Wallie, and sister, Nellie Gray Rollins and husband, Benton; stepgrandson, Joey Hanberry and wife, Kathy, and their two sons, Shawn Hanberry and Travis Hanberry; friends, Lennie and Richard Wood and Myrtle Tolson; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, immediately followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel by the Rev. Milford C. Rollins. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton with military honors. At other times the family will be at Edie Page's (niece) home, 20 Jean Mar Drive.
The family would like to thank the nurses, nurse aides and staff at Bayside; and Gale Bristow and her angels for their loving care whenever they were needed. Hick felt all of those mentioned were his "extended family."
Memorial contributions may be made to Poquoson Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 2099, or Tabernacle United Methodist Church Building Fund, 831 Poquoson Ave., both of Poquoson, VA 23662.
