Marion Florence Hohfeldt

Obituary Condolences

POQUOSON - Marion Florence Hohfeldt, 89, departed this world on Thursday, January 15, 2015, to join her beloved husband, Roy. Born in Hamilton, Ontario on March 10, 1925, she moved in her teens to Detroit, where she met Roy Hohfeldt and his large, welcoming and very loving family, which soon became her family as well. They married upon his return from England, where he served in the Eighth Air Force during WWII. Having been told she could never have children, her greatest surprise and joy in life was raising her three children, and later spending time with her grandchildren. A star member of her high school swim team, she always loved the water, both the beach in Florida and the lake in Northern Michigan. She was fascinated with birds everywhere, including from the deck of her daughter's home in Poquoson, where she and Roy moved in 1998 when her health was declining. Before her vision was greatly diminished, she was an avid reader and a painter, especially of birds, a great talent she discovered only in her late fifties. May she now be singing and dancing in the light with Dad. Marion is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Harris Luscomb of Poquoson; son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Denise Hohfeldt of Onsted, Michigan; and daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Tony Jiskra of Maryville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Katherine Luscomb, Jennifer Hohfeldt Rufener, John Hohfeldt, Eric Jiskra, Nathan Jiskra and Aaron Jiskra; her dear 'sisters-in-heart,' Carol Ferguson of Shelby Township, Michigan, and Jean Merciez of Warren, Michigan; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Poquoson, on Saturday, January 24th, 11:00 AM by Rev. Barry Throckmorton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Poquoson Library, 500 City Hall Ave., Poquoson, VA, 23662, or the Organ Fund at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 831 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson, VA, 23662, or to The Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Inc., 1033 Long Prairie Road, Suite 5, Flower Mound, TX, 75022. Online condolences to claytorrollins.com . Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, is assisting with arrangements.
