Mary E. EDWARDS Obituary
POQUOSON - Mary Emma Edwards, 92, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher, whose belief in teaching songs about Jesus was paramount, and a member of the Poquoson Band Boosters. "Miss Tettie," as known by all, will be remembered as an excellent southern cook, and a loving and caring mother to her children and many others that she called her own.
Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Herman Edwards; daughter, Edna Mae Wilkins; granddaughter, Phyllis Marie "Prissie" Savchenko; parents, Tom and Deniza Messick; sister, Patty Couch; and a brother, Tom Messick Jr.
She is survived by her son, Robert Edwards; her daughter, Tammy Byrn; grandson, James Bergin Byrn, and four additional grandchildren; and two sisters, Dolly Woolard and Indie Goodson.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at 21 Whitehouse Circle. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, at Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. C. Eugene Meek and the Rev. Carol Bookwalter. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News.
