POQUOSON - Mary I. Martin, 82, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson passed away October 26, 2015 at Riverside Regional Medical Center with her children by her side. Mary and Samuel Lee Martin eloped and married on May 28, 1950 and their loving home was always welcoming and opened to all. She was a talented seamstress and made clothes for family and friends. Mary spent many a summer day pickling and canning fresh vegetables from Sam's garden. She loved reading, flower gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. Mary was widely known for her 28 years of dedicated service to the Poquoson Elementary and Primary Schools. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Samuel Lee Martin; parents, Sally Margret and John Hilrey Insley; twin sons, Samuel Lee Martin, Jr. and William Lee Martin; brothers, Albert Insley, John Insley, Jr., William "Bill Booker" Insley, James "Jimmy Booker" Insley; sister, Margret Jane "Janie Booker" Robinson; and, grandson, David Michael Mosher. She is survived by her son, John Charles "Dooley" Martin; daughters, Linda Faye Fisher (Bill), Patty Ann Cochran (Jim), and Amelia Sue Morgan (Dennis); eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 30, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home from 7:00-8:30 PM. A service celebrating the life of Mary Martin will be held on Saturday, October 31, 11:00 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, Poquoson led by Rev. Charles Stacy. Burial will follow at Weston Cemetery, Poquoson. At other times the family will receive friends at the family home, 100 Kelsor Drive.
