Mary J. SPENCER Obituary
POQUOSON - Mary Joyce, 75, was lovingly brought into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Golden Living-Bayside of Poquoson.
Mary Joyce was born May 9, 1937, in Solon, Ohio, to the late Mary and Lloyd Edgar Marken. She was a 1955 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Kent, Ohio. She was married on Thanksgiving Day in 1957 to the late Jimmy Hill Spencer of Ocracoke Island, N.C. A devoted wife and mother, they spent a long career in the service of the United States Air Force living all over the world and raising three sons. They were married for 29 years until Jimmy passed away in August 1986. She was also preceded in death by her youngest son, John Tilden Spencer. Mary Joyce was a member of Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church, Church Women's Circle, and Arthritis Support Group. She had been living at Golden Living-Bayside of Poquoson since February 2007.
Mary Joyce is survived by her two sons, Jimmy Michael Spencer and his wife, Nicola of Poquoson and Ocracoke Island, N.C., Benjamin David Spencer of Lunenberg, Mass.; and four grandchildren, Joel Wallace Spencer of Newport News, Jessy Eileen Susan Spencer of Poquoson, Adam Benjamin and Ryan David Spencer, both of Lunenberg, Mass.
The family wishes to thank the kind and compassionate staff at Golden Living-Bayside of Poquoson for their tireless care.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, in the Peninsula Memorial Park.
