Mattie L. FINCH Obituary
POQUOSON - Mattie Louise Finch, age 90, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2011. She was a native of Pitt County, N.C., and was a resident of Poquoson for 18 years.
In 1986 she retired from the Greene Furniture Company of Newport News as a bookkeeper after a career spanning more than 25 years. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Mattie is preceded in death by her husband, Wallace T. Finch; parents, Jesse and Jane Elizabeth Fulford; brothers, Herman, Roy and Roland Fulford; and sister, Edna Mulligan.
Surviving members of her family include her children, Judy F. Wiggins and husband, Ben of Poquoson, Deborah F. Myers of Hopewell, Wallace M. "Mickey" Finch and wife, Linda, and Richard W. "Bud" Finch and wife, Pat all of Poquoson; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Billy Fulford; and many nieces and nephews.
Her beautiful smile and loving spirit will long be remembered by her family and all who knew her. She exemplified 'God's Best' as a wife and mother, always placing her care for others far before herself. Her legacy of hard work, love, compassion, and concern for others will serve forever as shining examples for all to follow.
The family would like to sincerely thank the entire staff at Bayside-Poquoson for the love and care provided our Mother. It is greatly appreciated.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2011, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Poquoson Rescue Squad, 1035 Poquoson Avenue, Poquoson, VA 23662.
