Maude Kirkland Crisp Obituary
POQUOSON - Maude Kirkland Crisp, 95, of Newport News passed away on November 7, 2017 at the Bayside of Poquoson, where she had resided since August 2008. She was born in Swain County, North Carolina on September 19,1922 and was the daughter of the late Ellis Chasteen and Dessie Jane Kirkland. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by husband Eugene Warren Crisp; two brothers Ellis Chasteen Kirkland, Jr., and Charles Clifton Kirkland; and two sisters Donna Stafford and Eddis Childers. Maude graduated from Almond High School, Swain County in 1940, and from National Business School, Hampton, Virginia in 1947. She was proud of her career with the Peninsula Industrial Committee, and her involvement with the Peninsula Symphony Orchestra. Maude had been a member of the Parkview Baptist Church for over fifty years. She leaves behind her 4 children, Robert E. Coffey and wife, Mary-Scott, of Eggleston, VA, Sandy Coffey Gregory Lindsay and Walter Sanderson, of Newport News, Eugene Warren Crisp, Jr. and Marie of Newport News; Marion Clifton Crisp and wife, Shirley, of Newport News; 9 grandchildren, Robert E. Coffey, Jr. and wife, Laura, of Eggleston, VA, Joseph Ellis Coffey and wife, Kate, of Littleton, CO, Dr. Katherine Leigh Coffey-Vega and husband, Juan, of Richmond, VA, Bobby Gregory and wife, Karen, of Newport News, Michael Gregory and wife, Tammy, of Newport News, Stephen Phillip Crisp, United States Army, Julie Fairbanks of Ashland, VA, Jennifer Crisp of Newport News, Victoria Crisp Cordaro and husband, Vincent, of Hampton; and 10 great grandchildren, Robert III, Thomas, Clara, Benjamin, Isaac, Heather, Sarah, Dessie, Abby and Nora. Deepest gratitude to Dr. Jerome Provenzano and the staff at the Bayside of Poquoson for their faithful and compassionate care over the years. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM Friday, November 10, 2017 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11 AM with Pastor Rusty Beck officiating. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates either contributions to Parkview Baptist Church, 604 Hilton Blvd, Newport News, VA 23605, or Bayside of Poquoson, 1 Vantage Dr, Poquoson, VA 23662.
