Maurice J. Newby Sr.

MADISON, ALA. - Maurice J. Newby Sr., 49, of Madison, Ala., passed away Monday, July 25. 2005, at a Huntsville, Ala. hospital. He was a native of Isle of Wight County, Va. and son of the late Cleveland James Newby. Mr. Newby was employed as a Health Physics Technician in the RADCON Department with Tennessee Valley Authority- Brownsferry for over 25 years. He was a member of First M.B. Church where he served as an usher. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who adored spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Cathy Holloway Newby of Madison, Ala.; daughters, Tomeka Pettus and Jasmine Newby of Huntsville; son, Maurice James Newby Jr. of Harvest, Ala.; his mother, Elizabeth Newby of Ivor; two sisters, Vernita Peeples (Wallace) of Virginia Beach, Va. and Lorraine Nichols (David) of Carrollton, Va.; one brother, Sylvester Newby (Mildred) of Virginia Beach; daughter-in-law, Stacie Newby; son-in-law, Tommie Pettus; five grandchildren, Tommie Pettus Jr., Jordyn Newby, Justin Newby, Jalen Straughter and Maurice James Newby III; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be noon Saturday July 30, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Wakefield, Va. with the Rev. Leslie L. Holloway Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Mount Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery in Ivor. Crocker Funeral Home of Suffolk is handling arrangements.
