POQUOSON - Merriel Dean Insley Forrest, 82, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, transitioned to her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 with her family by her side. Upon graduation from Poquoson High School Class of 1953 ("Golden Girls" member), she started a career in banking, holding many different jobs, and retiring in 1998 as Executive Secretary for 1st Advantage Credit Union. Merriel Dean was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Poquoson, its Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class, and taught children's Sunday School for many years. She loved staying at her cottage on Mobjack Bay, Matthews, where many pleasurable hours were spent. She loved to go crabbing and was well known for her delicious crabcakes. Merriel Dean was preceded in death by her husband Henry M. "Bubber" Forrest, Jr.; and parents, Della Jane and Robert Vadie Insley, Sr. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Julie Haczewski and husband Joe; grandchildren, Jennifer Seltzer, Jason Haczewski, and Jolyn Haczewski; loving great-granddaughter, Kyndall Haczewski; brother, Robert V. "Junie" Insley Jr. and wife Joy; sister-in-law, Alice Nell Firth; special friend, Henry Simpson; and numerous nieces and nephews. "Merriel was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother ("Gram")." Visitation will be held Friday, July 7, 6:00 - 7:30 PM, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at her home. A Celebration of Merriel Dean's life will be held Saturday, July 8, 11:00 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, led by Rev. Patricia Riggs and Mr. Ben Wilson. Burial will follow at Weston Cemetery, Poquoson. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1294 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson, VA 23662. Online condolences to claytorrollins.com .
