Olen R. Bunting Sr. Obituary
POQUOSON - Olen R. Bunting Sr., 85, a native of Messick and lifelong Poquoson resident, passed away after a short illness on Saturday, September 23, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He graduated from Poquoson High School Class of 1951; was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church; and retired in 1993 as a Civil Engineer Tech at Ft. Monroe after 40 years, and received several achievement awards during his career there. Olen loved sports, and was involved in most all Poquoson youth sports, especially basketball. He, with a few others, founded the Poquoson Parks & Recreation Department where he volunteered for many years. Olen was preceded in death by his parents, Velva J. & Henry H. Bunting; brother, Henry Thomas Bunting; and his beloved canine companion, Joe. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Madge Ward Bunting; daughter, Teresa Hare (Ronald); sons, Olen R. "Bubba" Bunting Jr. (Teresa), and Grayson Bunting Sr. (Debbie); grandchildren, Laura Hornsby (Melvin), Stacey Sawicki, Grayson Bunting Jr. (Jennifer), Brian Bunting (Melissa), Carrie Withrow (Brian), William Sawicki, and Lindsay Insley (Mike); eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 27, 6:00-8:00 PM, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at the home, 51 Poplar Road. A Celebration of Olen's life will be held Thursday, Sept. 28, 2:00 PM, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Poquoson, led by Pastor Buddy Chapman. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Poquoson Volunteer Fire & Rescue, P. O.
