Patricia R. HARRIS Obituary
>POQUOSON - Patricia Rollins Harris, 70, a native of Poquoson, passed away peacefully at her home on Oct. 3, 2012, after a brief battle with cancer.
Pat is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, George Everett Harris and her parents, Joseph Milton and Lillian Elizabeth Rollins.
She is survived by her only brother, Joseph James "Jimmy" Rollins; extended family too numerous to list; and her four-legged 'heavensent' children, Res-Q-Pete, Nike Aire, Mille, Belaire, Walker, Echostar, Onstar, Georgetta, Tripper, Vision, Token, Sergio, and Tess.
In her younger years, Pat was very athletic and loved participating in team sports. She was on numerous basketball, volleyball, especially softball teams, and started the 'Old Timers' Softball League in Poquoson. She was also actively involved in community service as a volunteer emergency medical technician with the Poquoson Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department and a member of the Poquoson Fire/Rescue Ladies Auxiliary.
Pat worked for the government at Langley Air Force Base for 37 years as command equipment management officer for Air Combat Command. In that position, she was responsible for all equipment issues at every Air Force base throughout the command and received numerous awards for her outstanding accomplishments.
After an exceptional civil service career, she retired in 1998 and aggressively pursued her true passion: dogs. As a Papillon Breeder of Distinction, she bred and/or campaigned 13 champion papillons, one Grand Champion papillon, and one champion poodle. In 2002, she had the #4 Papillon in the United States and was invited to the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City.
In addition to breeding, she was also a professional dog groomer and certified professional dog trainer. She spent many hours as a training instructor for the Merrimac Dog Training Club and always had time to talk to anyone about their dogs or to answer any question about dog training. A highly respected and active member of the Langley Kennel Club, she served as past-president, board member, and chairperson/assistant chairperson of the Annual LKC All-Breed Dog Show.
Pat touched the lives of many people in her lifetime through the Air Force community, the local community, and her very special "canine" community. She was dearly loved by all who knew her; she will be sadly missed and fondly remembered forever.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Pat's life, Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, 836 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pet Pantry, P. O. Box 1763, Yorktown, VA 23692 or the Poquoson Volunteer Fire/Rescue Department, P. O. Box 2099, Poquoson, VA 23662.
