Paul Maurice Keddell Obituary
POQUOSON - Major Paul Maurice Keddell, 65, born January 7, 1951, in Ilion, New York, passed away peacefully at his home on December 6, 2016 after a long and hard fought battle with Multiple Myeloma. Paul leaves behind his loving and precious wife of 44 Years, June Keddell; his beloved children, Kirstie (Brendan) Phillips-O'Neil, Shauna (Tim) Cannella, Lindsay (Dave) Lockett, and Maj. Paul (Liz) Keddell II; cherished grandchildren, Declan, Finley, Luke, Elliott, David Paul, Whitney, Will, Jon, Owen, Abby, Makenna, Emma, Trenton, Aiden, Liam, Isabelle, and Ariel; siblings, Lorita, Peg, Jean, Barb, Mary, Jim, Pete (Deb), and Kenny (Fran); in-laws, Judy, Linda (Vic), and Gary (Ellen); dozens of nieces and nephews that he adored; and many friends he considered family. He was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Ruth Keddell; father and mother in-law Roy and Joyce Backman; brother Daniel Keddell; son-in-law Kevin Phillips; and in-laws Tony Maneen, Pat Keddell, Sharon LeRoland, and Roy, Jon, and Erika Backman. Paul retired honorably as an Air Force Major and earned numerous medals including the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Korean Defense Service Medal. He received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees with honors while being a father of four and working full-time. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and never met a stranger he didn't know. He was the bedrock of the family and always put his family in front of everything. He was a devoted husband who absolutely adored his wife; and June was a fierce advocate for him throughout his battle with cancer. Despite his own illness, he was a Eucharistic minister, ministered to the sick, and was an ambassador for Multiple Myeloma until the very end. He loved the Red Sox, Jeeping, RVing, story-telling, music, and his beer; was a sailing, clamming, computing, and jerry-rigging enthusiast; enjoyed wood-working, grilling, and gardening; and he took pride in everything, especially his grandchildren. He was a past Chair of the local Republican party, and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. The family will receive friends Friday, December 9, 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at the home. Mass of the Resurrection will be Saturday, December 10, 1:30 PM, at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, Yorktown, presided by Father Bob Spencer, with a reception to immediately follow. Interment will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery with full Air Force honors. Contributions in the memory of Paul M. Keddell may be made to the International Myeloma Foundation at myeloma.org or 12650 Riverside Drive, Suite 206, North Hollywood, CA. 91607-3421. Condolences to claytorollins.com .
