Loving husband, father and grandfather, Percy Franklin Ward Sr., 86, went to be with Jesus on July 17, 2018. Percy will be truly missed by his wife of 64 years, Bonnie Harris Ward; son Percy F. Ward Jr. and wife, Kathy; daughter Angela Ward Costello; and his adoring grandson Nicholas H.W. Costello. Percy is also remembered fondly by his remaining sister Mae Buchanan and her husband Coles; brother Melvin Ward and his wife Shirley; and many nieces and nephews from his family greeting him in heaven including parents, Janie and William Ward; brothers, Leavern, Oscar, Cartier, John, and Lemuel; and sister Mary. The son of a waterman, his passion for the sea and ship building resulted in a 41 year Nuclear Submarine career at Newport News Shipbuilding (now Northrop Grumman), one of the largest military shipbuilders in the United States. He was proud of his service and retired in 1995 as a Master Shipbuilder. A Celebration of Percy's life service will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, July 22 at Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Hampton. The family will receive visitors after the service at 725 Yorktown Road in Poquoson. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Poquoson Volunteer Fire And Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 2099, Poquoson, VA, 23662. We called on them often and genuinely appreciate their compassion and assistance. Online condolences to claytorrollins.com . We are comforted in knowing that Percy F. Ward had a personal relationship with Jesus and that his journey through this life was admirable and inspiring. He leaves a legacy that will be long remembered by those who love him.

My sincere condolences to the Ward family. I
will always remember Mr. Percy Sr. for his
jovial personality. Years ago, he played a great Santa Claus in Percy Jr. and Kathy's front yard in which my family enjoyed watching from our house across the street. I also remember all the women's softball games he attended rooting on Angelia and others. God bless, and may he rest in peace.

Our deepest sympathy to the Ward family. I fondly remember all the times I sat in the swing with Mr. Ward watching Nicholas when he was a baby when we lived across the street. One of the sweetest, kindest people I have ever known.
