HAMPTON - Philip Samuel Curtis was born August 7, 1936 to the late Perry Cleveland Curtis, Sr. and Della Cohn Curtis in Renova, Mississippi. He departed this life on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 in Hampton, Virginia. He was married to Rosetta Fleming Curtis and they were the parents of six children. Philip was educated at Globe Academy in Columbia, Mississippi. He went into the United States Armed Forces in 1954. He remained in the Army for over 22 years until he retired in 1977 as a Sergeant First Class. After that time, he spent 21 years at the Newport News Shipyard. He retired from the Shipyard in 1998. Philip was a family man who was loved by many people. He enjoyed telling jokes and reciting poetry. He was a faithful member of Emmanuel Grace Baptist Church. He served there as a trustee and deacon and a member of the male chorus. To cherish his memory, Philip leaves his wife of 60 years, Rosetta Fleming Curtis, six daughters: Clementine Curtis, Yvonne Curtis, Cynthia Curtis, Loretta Curtis-LeMay (Keith), Gloria Parris (Linden), and Lorraine Howard (Mark), his brother Joe Louis Curtis, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends. Viewing will be held Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held 12 Noon, Tuesday, at Emmanuel Grace Church, 3301 Kecoughtan Road, Hampton,VA. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
