POQUOSON - Phyllis Williams Atkinson went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 11, 2016, the exact day of her 38th wedding anniversary. She was born on February 15, 1936, and graduated from Poquoson High School Class of 1954. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Samuel "Sam" & Dorothy Ward Williams, grandson Joseph Camilo Christman, and great-granddaughter Charlotte Temple Christman. Phyllis is survived by her husband, CW4 C. Raymond "Ray" Atkinson; children, Eugene G. "Chris" Christman & wife Becky, J. Scott Christman & wife Beatriz, and Celeste Woodson; grandchildren, Zach & wife Lindsay, Seth, Jake & wife Elizabeth, and Aura Catalina Christman; great-grandchild, Eli; and sister, Deanna Hastings & husband Roger. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Poquoson, all her life and it's Wesley Fellowship Class and Historical Committee; the Charles Parish Chapter NSDAR; and charter member secretary of Poquoson Historical Committee. Phyllis loved taking snapshots at church, her family and her community. For many years she was historian of Trinity and loved taking pictures of its people. She would make two copies of the pictures, one for the individual and one for the church files. Phyllis retired in 1998 from Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS), with 23 years in the Finance Dept., and her happiest days were her 4 years (1974-1978) in the Atomic Power Design Department. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 15, 1:00-2:00 PM, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with a Celebration of her life immediately after at 2:00 PM at the church by Rev. Charles R. Stacy. Entombment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. Other times the family will be at the home.
