Quita L. GUTHRIE Obituary
POQUOSON - Quita L. Guthrie, 80, a native of Bedford County and a Poquoson resident for the past 45 years, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at home.
Mrs. Guthrie, "Granny," was a homemaker that worked as hard inside as she did outside the home for her family and community. She was a seamstress for the PHS Auxiliary Band groups and many individuals in Poquoson, volunteered at Freeman's Florist, worked at Drumhellurs Ice Cream Shop, and selling Sarah Coventry Jewelry. She was a member of the Tabernacle United Methodist Church, the Friendship Bible class, participated in the United Methodist Women's circles, and served in the nursery for many years. Mrs. Guthrie was a member of the PHS Band Boosters and the Charles Parish Chapter NSDAR.
Mrs. Guthrie was preceded in death by her husband, David H. Guthrie Sr.; daughter, Donna G. Firth; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thomas Little.
She is survived by her children, David H. Guthrie Jr. and wife, Harriet, Phillip G. Guthrie and wife, Patrice, and Theresa G. Forrest and husband, Stanley, all of Poquoson; eight grandchildren, Maria Davis and husband, Greg, Tommy Firth and fiancEe, Shayna Widegren, Nick Guthrie and wife, Tara, Chris Guthrie and wife, Angie, Nathan Firth, Ricky Firth and fiancEe, April Carr, Amber Forrest, Thomas Forrest, all of Poquoson; five great-grandchildren, Billy Davis, Bailey Firth, Kailyn Firth, Brianna Guthrie, and Brianna Widegren; two sisters-in-law, Belva Nemeth and Tharon Meador; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins too numerous to name; and many special friends and adopted children and grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at her home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Dr. Bill Wash, the Rev. Milford C. Rollins, and the Rev. Carol Bookwalter. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.
