On May 29, 2018, Robert Leland Gordon, 85, left his sweetheart on this earth. Bob, as he was affectionately known, was born November 13, 1932 in Provo, UT but grew up in Glendale CA. He didn’t attend school until the 5th grade because of rheumatic fever - once he started he excelled - his brilliant mind set him on a trail to success. Bob joined the USAF in his 20’s and was an airplane mechanic and then graduated with honors from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with an Engineering degree while raising a family. He worked for Lockheed and then took over the family business as President of Clark Tool Company. Bob had a lifetime full of stories and sayings; most of the time hilarious or at least worth a shake of the head. He was a loyal and honest man that always put his family first. Bob said what he wanted and let his opinion be known, usually with a few **** words involved. He believed in cleaning your plate, putting things back where they belonged, holding hands, sweet kisses and sayings, and always having a folded napkin on the table. Bob had an adventurous soul and started his path when he was sixteen, taking off to Alaska. He earned his pilot’s license and was fortunate enough to fly for years with his parents and later his own family. His love for travel warranted years of road travel in a motorhome with the love of his life Joanne; they enjoyed a love story that is envied by many for 47 years. Bob and Joanne raised their children in CA and retired to Bullhead, AZ where they enjoyed years of jet skiing, four wheeling, and all things outdoors. They moved to VA in 2002 to be near their grandchildren. Bob was a mechanical engineer by trade but a true engineer in life â€" his mind was amazing, and he taught his family the value of hard work and honesty. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Leland and Effie Gordon. He is survived by his beautiful wife Joanne; sons, Rob Gordon of HI, and Lee Gordon of CA; daughter, Michelle Long (Jay) of Poquoson; grandchildren, Shawn Gordon of CA, Mitch, Jaycee, and his namesake Gordon Robert “Bobbyâ€ Long, all of Poquoson. Services will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate to St. Jude’s or your favorite charity. Online condolences to claytorrollins.com .
