POQUOSON - Beloved father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather Robert "Bob" Murray O'Connell passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016 surrounded by family at his daughter's home in Glen Allen, VA. Bob was born in New Bedford, MA and resided in Hampton Roads for nearly 60 years, most recently in Poquoson. He celebrated 79 years of life in January. Bob was an amazing man whose early career included serving as a Newport News firefighter and as a signalman in the United States Navy aboard the USS Sigourney. He spent the majority of his long career as a store manager at Sears & Roebuck and later as an Allstate Insurance agent, from which he retired in 2000 after 22 years. Bob was also a member of the Hampton Moose Lodge 1514. He had a life-long love of the water, boating, and fishing. However, his favorite pastime was spending time with his large family who loved and adored him dearly. He is survived by his brother Michael S. O'Connell, two sons Robert M. O'Connell II and Tyler M. O'Connell, three daughters Denise O. Dancy, Robin M. Johnson, and Marni O. Rosen, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 5:00-6:30 pm at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home in Hampton. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A private family burial service will follow. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that memorial contributions be made to the .
