Robert S. FORREST Obituary
POQUOSON - Robert S. Forrest, 82, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2012.
Bobby was a "happy go lucky" person with an inborn ability to share an outgoing personality with people he knew and came in contact with. He was a 1947 graduate of Poquoson High School; served in the U.S. Army/Naval Reserve; and retired from Langley AFB in 1985 after 36 years of service.
During his illness he wrote a book about his life and growing up in Poquoson from the 30's to the present. It was a legacy that he passed on to all his family and close friends.
Bobby was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; a member of the V.F.W.; a member of the Poquoson American Legion Post 273; and served as chairman for the City of Poquoson Zoning Board for 18 years.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Levenia Forrest; daughter, Elizabeth Ann "Beth" Roberts; sister, Elizabeth Ann Burcher; and grandson, Robert Travis Forrest.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Lucy "Lu" Forrest; his son, Craig Forrest and wife, Becky, of Grandy, N.C.; his daughter, Carmen Melton and husband, David, of Hampton; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Bobby was a devoted and kind husband and father who always gave his love entirely to his family.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at the home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Poquoson, by the Rev. Charles R. Stacy and the Rev. George T. Insley Jr. Entombment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum with American Legion and military honors.
A special thank you to Dr. Mark Fleming and the staff at Virginia Oncology. Memorial contributions may be made to .
