Ronald McCullough Lamprecht Obituary
POQUOSON - Ronald McCullough Lamprecht left his earthly family to join his heavenly family on September 26, 2015, after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Born December 1, 1947, Ron, or "PopPop" as his beloved grandchildren knew him, grew up in Illinois, graduated from Farmington High School. He enlisted in the Army to fly helicopters, serving two combat tours in Vietnam and many other assignments that took him and his family around the world for 20 years. He was awarded medals and commendations including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Bronze Star, Air Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. He completed his B.S. in Accounting and an MBA from Syracuse University. After retiring from the Army, Ron worked in the private sector, most recently for Systems East Inc. In his youth, Ron mastered playing the bagpipes. He served his family and community as a scout leader, coach, swim official, youth group leader, Sunday School teacher, deacon, and elder. He was a gentle man with a huge heart and warm smile who will be long remembered by those who knew him. His children and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was a voracious reader who also enjoyed golf, photography, and traveling with his wife, Susan. Together they travelled extensively in Europe and Africa. Ron was a member of Northside Christian Church. Ron was preceded in rest by his parents, Lyle and Imogene Lamprecht. He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Susan, and his four sons Brian (Ruth), Jeffrey (Donna), Jamey (Janey), Ian (Leigh), seven grandchildren Tori, Joci, Zack, Elli (Lamprecht), Macy, Vince (Marotta), and Juliet, who is to be delivered Oct. 9. He is also survived by two sisters Paula Harms (Cub) and Carla Lamprecht, two bothers Lyle (Cindy) and Jerry (Terrie), one brother-in-law Rick Rodehaver (Nancy) and many nieces and nephews. The service will be co-officiated by Larry Jones, Minister of Northside, and Nathan Rodehaver, Ron's nephew, Pastor of Church of the Nazarene in DeKalb, IL. The family would like to thank Dr. David Chang and Dr. Song Kang for their care of Ron over the last 15 months, and also Mary Thompson, Ron's oncology nurse who was outstanding in her care of Ron. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 until 8:30 at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson. A Celebration of Ron's life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 AM. Burial with full military honors will follow at Weston Cemetery in Poquoson. A reception will be held at the home immediately thereafter: 7 Frank Hunt Ct., Poquoson.
