Ronald Pollard Obituary
On Friday, August 3, 2018, Ronald Pollard, 77, was called home by his Heavenly Father. One of eight children, he was born in Elkhorn, West Virginia, to the late Willard and Faye Pollard, and had been a Peninsula resident since 1971. Ron was owner/operator of Tri-City Fuels for 35 years, and recently was a school bus driver for the City of Newport News for 5 years. He loved God, his country, our flag, and proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3219, Warwick Moose Lodge 1711, and American Legion Post 255. Ron coached baseball at Deer Park Little League and Warwick Moose where he was lovingly known as Mr. P. and self-proclaimed "Living Legend". He loved the children so much that he formed his own baseball teams known as the Tri-City All Stars. Survivors include his wife Lois Pollard; one son Jason Pollard and his wife Julie; two brothers, Kenneth Pollard and his wife Jennifer, and Norman Pollard; a sister Donna Knight; two grandsons, Austin and Brett; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Marcus Pollard; a daughter Michelle Pollard; three sisters, Juanita Davidson, Patricia Campbell, and Rita Lund; and a brother Donald Pollard. Ron was a loving father, grandfather, devoted and loving husband of 49 years. He has left a huge impression on the lives of many and will always be missed but never forgotten. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 PM Friday, August 10, 2018 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the funeral home with Rev. Timothy Dobson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends after the service at First Church of God, 617 Randolph Road, Newport News. Arrangements by W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
