Rosanna H. WHITE Obituary
POQUOSON - Rosanna Hunt White, wife of the late Albert Sidney White Jr., passed away peacefully at Dominion Village of Poquoson on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011.
Mrs. White, born in 1919, was the daughter of the late Septimus and Mabel Phillips Hunt. A lifelong resident of Poquoson, she attended Poquoson public schools and received her teaching certificate from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va.
In 1943, she married Albert S. "Sid" White Jr., Sheriff and civic leader in the York County and Poquoson area. The couple had three children, all of whom survive her. As a young married woman, Mrs. White taught first grade in the Poquoson school system. Later while raising her children, she often served as a substitute teacher. Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she was devoted to extended family as well. Throughout her adult life, she was a patient and loving caregiver to parents, aunts, and other family members. Even during her time at Dominion Village, she continued to watch over and offer loving care and attention to her friends there as they became ill.
Mrs. White enjoyed music and particularly playing the piano and singing at gatherings of family and friends. She was a lifelong member of Tabernacle Methodist Church, a member of the Charles Parish Chapter of the D.A.R. and the Poquoson Retired Teacher's Association.
Three children and a grandchild survive her, Rose W. Winter, Jack White (Nancy), Albert S. White III (Elizabeth); and granddaughter, Jane Garrett McLemore White.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, at the church by the Rev. Dr. Bill Wash. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Tabernacle United Methodist Church Building Fund, 831 Poquoson Ave.; or to the Poquoson Education Foundation, P.O. Box 2425, both in Poquoson, VA 23662.
