Roy M. Deuell Obituary
POQUOSON - Roy M. Deuell passed away at home peacefully on Saturday, February 18th, 2017. He was born January 9th, 1933 in Newport News, and was recently residing in Poquoson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse J. Deuell and Annie B. Deuell; wife of 39 years Ruth N. Deuell; brother, Jesse; and daughter-in-law, Mary H. Deuell. He is survived by his children, Beverly Holmes and husband Frank, Roy (Sonny) Deuell Jr., and fiancée Renée Rye; grandchildren, Casey Vinett, Zachary Deuell, Joshua Holmes, Jessica Holmes, Emily Deuell; siblings, James, Tommy, Charlie, Virginia DeBerry, Maza Lee Williams, Suzie Johnson, and Judy Walker. He is also survived by his good friend Laura Haney and many nieces and nephews. Roy was a Korean war veteran, and retired from Newport News Shipyard with over 40 years of service. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and a youth ministry leader. Roy was an avid bowler and loved to travel. Most of all, he loved his family and prepared many Sunday meals for cherished family gatherings. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, February 22nd at W. J. Smith and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, February 23rd at First Baptist Church of Newport News, 12716 Warwick Boulevard. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
