Samuel Edmund "Bo" Waddill III Obituary
Samuel Edmund "Bo" Waddill, III passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018 surrounded by his family. Bo was a lifelong Newport News resident, attending Ferguson High School and graduating from Hargrave Military Academy. He attended Brevard College and served in the USMC Reserves. He joined his father in the family business, W.T. Chapin, Inc. in 1971. He became President in 1993 and remained in charge of the agency when it became part of Towne Insurance. He truly enjoyed his 46 year career as an Independent Insurance Agent. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry for 2 terms and was an usher. He also served on the Episcopal Day School Board of Trustees at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. He was the past President of Peninsula AGC, a member of the Hampton Roads German Club and the James River Country Club. Bo was a former member of the Warwick Rotary Club and was a proud member of the Warwick Rotary softball team. Bo loved golfing and his NY Yankees. Bo was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Edmund Waddill, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Mary Gibson Waddill; his son, Samuel Edmund Waddill, IV of Buffalo, NY; his mother, Mary Randolph Scott Waddill of Newport News; his sister, Anne Brown and her husband, Robert of Newport News; his nephew, Mason Brown; his mother-in-law, Lucyle Macon; his brothers-in-law, Wesley Shumate and Richard Macon (Kim); sisters-in law, Anne Shumate, Susie Vann (Graves) and Lillian Carter (Jim) and many cousins, extended family and friends. He was devoted to his pets and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 45 Main St., Newport News, VA 23601. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
