POQUOSON - Samuel Louis "Sam" Ferguson, 67, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, passed away Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011.
He retired in 2008, as a self-employed paint contractor, and enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball for many years. "Big Sam," as he was known, was a loving husband, wonderful father, grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed by all.
Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mary Emma Ferguson; a brother, James Roland Dryden Jr.; a sister, Margaret Denise Ferguson; and uncles, Frank Ferguson and Sinky Ferguson.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Millie "Louise" Ferguson; a son, Samuel Louis "Lil Sam" Ferguson II; a daughter, "Lisa" Louise Ferguson-Gregore and husband, Eric; four grandchildren, Erica, Jessica, Zachary, and Samantha; numerous beloved uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson. Family prefer visitation only at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home chapel, by the Rev. George V. Insley Jr. Burial will follow at Weston Cemetery, Poquoson.
