POQUOSON - Sarah Richmond Jernell, 87, died Wednesday, January 13, 2016. She passed away at Chapel Hill hospital where she was airlifted from Fayetteville, NC after a fall at her daughter's home where she was visiting. She lived in Gloucester, Virginia with her grandson, Joe Richmond, III. Sarah was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Donald Richmond, Sr. and Paul Jernell, and her son, Joe Donald Richmond, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Eva Brewster (Harry), and Mae Whitehurst (Floyd Barefoot); grandchildren, Joe Donald "Jody" Richmond, III, Carol Lands (David), Angela Setzer, Stephen Belch, Jr. (Amanda), Melissa Brewster, and John Brewster; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kyle, Sara, Brent, Collin, Cody, Parker, Diane, Ariel, and Kendall; a great-great-grandson, Edward; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sarah retired from Teledyne Hastings Raydist and Vacuum Research where at the age of 80 she finally decided to enjoy spending time with her family. She enjoyed reading and going on trips, especially cruises, with her daughters. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Poquoson, and was a life member of the Virginia State Firemen's Association Ladies Auxiliary and the Poquoson Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 17th from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home in Poquoson with services following at 3 PM by Rev. George Thomas Insley, Jr. Private burial will be at Eastern Cemetery, Poquoson, at a later date. At other times, the family will be at her daughter's (Eva Brewster) at 4236 Cato Drive, Gloucester, Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Poquoson Vol. Fire & Rescue, P.O.
