Shirley Ann Gervais Obituary
POQUOSON - On Sunday, July 7, 2013 the Good Lord saw fit to allow the whole family to be at her bedside when he ended Shirley Ann Gervais' seven-year struggle with Alzheimer's. Shirley was born on October 27, 1942 and grew up as a child in Auburn, Maine. She met and married Joseph Gervais from nearby Lewiston in 1960 and lived in several parts of the country and in Japan as an Air Force wife before settling in Virginia in 1972. She retired in 2003 from AATD at Fort Eustis after a 20-year career in civil service. Shirley centered most of her life around her children, grandchildren and her many close friends through a lifelong association with the Beta Sigma Phi women's sorority. She was an animal lover and always had a dog and/or cat as part of the house her entire life. She especially loved traveling and always had a sense of adventure evident with her packing up her truck right after retirement and heading to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to pursue a relaxing lifestyle working at guest ranches in the area. She was in Jackson only a few days when she met her constant companion, Dino Constantinides. She and Dino spent the next several years traveling between Jackson Hole, her home in Newport News, and his home overlooking the coast of Greece. Despite the slow progression of the disease during their relationship, it was a very happy time for her and thank God for allowing Dino to enter her life. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 22 years, Joseph G.L. Gervais, and brother, Robert Mottram. She is survived by her son, Jim Gervais of Hampton; daughters, Sereena Reeser of Jackson Hole, WY and Monique Myers of Cabot, AR; grandchildren, Josie, Jamie, and Joe, as well as very recently becoming a great-grandmother to Josie's daughter, Aneesa. Shirley also has a very close cousin, Sara Jordan of Turner, Maine. Mom was our rock and her legacy lives on by instilling in her kids a strong sense of respect, responsibility, love and family. She will be greatly missed, but we are comforted that she is finally at peace and in the arms of Jesus. We would like to extend a thanks to the staff and management of Dominion Village at Poquoson and Heartland Hospice Care for their care during her stay. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the , 6350 Center Drive, Ste. 102, Norfolk, VA 23502; or to the , 11835 Canon Blvd, Ste. 102-A, Newport News, VA 23606.
