Stanley GOODMAN Obituary
HAMPTON - Stanley Goodman, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, departed this life on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 2, 1927, in Wilson, N.C., to Abe and Ann Goodman. The family moved to Newport News in the early forties. Upon graduation from Newport News High School in 1945, he entered the U.S. Navy and served as a hospital corpsman at the U.S. Naval Receiving Station in San Pedro, Calif. He received the American Area Medal and WWII Victory Medal.
Stanley Goodman was the founder of Goodman & Son's Jewelers in Hampton and Williamsburg, and worked side by side with his wife, Lena, family and staff for many years.
Stan was preceded in death by his sister and her husband, Phyllis and Daniel Kemack; and his brother, Dr. Eugene Goodman.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lena Laibstain Goodman; his sons, Stuart (Judy), Eric (Janet), Edward (Holly); daughter, Debra (Alex); nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Evelyn Goodman; and brother and sister-in-law, Nathan and Sarah Laibstain. He was very proud of all.
A funeral service will be conducted by Rabbi Norman Golner in B'nai Israel Synagogue, Hampton at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010. Burial will follow in the Jewish Cemetery of the Virginia Peninsula.
The Goodman family would like to thank Stephanie Wallace for her compassionate care given to Stanley and to the other health care providers that had taken care of him at home.
