Stephen C. POWELL Obituary
POQUOSON - Stephen C. "Steve" Powell, 57, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, went to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Steve worked at B.A.S.F. for 20 years, and then, because of his love of the water, became a waterman. He attended Emmaus Baptist Church, Poquoson, and enjoyed hunting with his son, sons-in-law, and grandkids. He was like his dad and loved all children, even if they were not his own.
Steve was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Eldred and Earline Powell; sister, Edna Martin; and brother, Bud Powell.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Sarah P. Powell; two daughters, Stella Marie Trice and husband, George, and Elizabeth Anne "Lizzy" Deaver and husband, Gregory; a son, Jason Allen Powell; five grandchildren, George, Kayla, Gracie, Madison, and Jacob; two sisters, Lane Edwards and husband, Phillip, and Jan Rollins; and many nieces and nephews. Steve loved his family, and was "grateful for all the kindness everyone showed him the past three years while he was battling cancer."
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at the home, 712 Yorktown Road, Poquoson. A celebration of Steve's life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Emmaus Baptist Church by Pastor Dan Cromer and the Rev. John Pouchot. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Riverside Hospice, 12420 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23606. Online condolences to www.claytorrollins.com.
