Obituary Condolences

NEWPORT NEWS - Thomas E. Coleman Jr., 87, passed away, surrounded by family, at Mary Immaculate Hospital on Thursday, May 1, 2008.
He was born May 5, 1920, in Laurens County, S.C., to the late Thomas E. Coleman Sr. and Grace Boyd Coleman. He had resided in Newport News since 1962 and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, as an Aviation Cadet and graduated from Bombardier School. He was sent to England with a B-17 Bomber crew as part of the 8th Army Air Force. After returning to the U.S., he attended Clemson University and graduated in 1950 as a Civil Engineer. He retired from Langley AFB in July 1982 as a Supervisor Civil Engineer after 35 years of civil service.
Mr. Coleman was preceded in death by his sister, Sadie Friday.
He is survived by his wife, Adelaide Coleman; three children, Thomas E. Coleman III, Lisa Coleman and Melinda Kerner and husband, Kevin; two grandchildren, Sarah and Kyle Kerner; and two brothers, Joseph and Paul Coleman.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Riverside Regional Convalescent Center.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, officiated by Father Peter Tran. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
