Obituary Condolences

NEWPORT NEWS - Mr. Mahone lost his long battle with cancer and gave himself up to his Lord on Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, surrounded by his loving family. Lou was born in Newport News on Feb. 9, 1925, to Henry and Madeline. A lifelong resident of Newport News, he attended Newport News schools. He retired from C&O Railroad after 28 years of service. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56-1/2 years, Jane Harris Mahone, and his children, Mary Jane Tanner and husband, Benjamin, Thomas 'Lou' Jr. and wife, Jenny, of Newport News, and Judy Evans and husband, Brian, of Nelson County, Va. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Eric Jerkins, Cullen and Michael Tanner, and Thomas III, Jordan and Madeline Mahone; and a special niece, Gloria Champine of Newport News. A special thank-you to Dr. Elizabeth Harden and her staff and also Brenda Kaye, Virginia and Sandra with Odyssey Health Care. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, in Peninsula Memorial Park, officiated by Pastor Ken Peterson. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd., suite A-102, Newport News, VA 23606.
