Verlyn B. WATKINS Obituary
POQUOSON - Verlyn B. "Biddie" Watkins, 95, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, surrounded by her family at Dominion Village of Poquoson. She was a graduate of the Class of 1934 from Poquoson High School, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Ella Forrest Circle, Trinity Fund Raisers, and the Quindie Roe Council #42 Degree of Pocahontas. She enjoyed quilting for the fundraisers, sewing for her family and working at the dress factory, and being a beautician for her friends. Biddie was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family, friends, and her church.
Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Villa Watkins; parents, Ed and Bertha Bunting; a brother, Otis Bunting; and a sister, Nellie Paul.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly W. Gillikin and husband, Alex; grandchildren, Brad Gillikin and wife, Cheryl and Jeff Gillikin and wife, Nancy; great-grandchildren, Lindsey Fawcett and husband, Jason, Andrew Gillikin, Brian Templeton, and Alyssa Gillikin; a great-great-grandchild, Owen Fawcett; a sister, Edna Teague; a sister-in-law, Thelma Bunting; and several loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, Sept 6, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, immediately followed by a funeral service at noon in the funeral home chapel by the Rev. Charles R. Stacy and the Rev. George T. Insley Jr. Burial will follow at Smith Memorial Cemetery, Poquoson. At other times, the family will be at the daughter's home, 20 Alphus Street, Poquoson.
