Wallie G. WHITE Obituary
POQUOSON - Wallie Gene White, 85, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2012, at home surrounded by his family.
He began his career working at Newport News Shipbuilding, then served as councilman, vice-mayor, and treasurer of the City of Poquoson, and retired in 1989 as owner/operator of Poquoson Hardware. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served in the Chancel Choir and George W. Amos Men's Chorus, member of UM Men's Club, was a mentor for the confirmation classes, and taught in the Women's and Men's Bible Class. He was a counselor with the Boys Scouts for earning merit badges, and was a member of the Poquoson Lion's Club. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne.
Mr. White was preceded in death by his parents, Alton Montague and Bettie Violet Forrest White; paternal grandparents, John Arthur and Annie Marie Forrest White; maternal grandparents, William King and Esther Smith Forrest; brother-in-law, Bill Proctor; aunts and uncles, Mary and Harvey Herring, and Elizabeth and William Forrest.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Edith Charline Forrest White; three daughters, Jean Allen Roberts (Dick), Edith Marie Page (Larry), and Sallie Charline Fox (Dean); a sister, Esther Marie White Proctor; seven grandchildren, Valerie Hutchison (Mike), Angie Rinck (Matt), Jeff Roberts, Mandy Jones (Tom), Justin Fox (Leah), Amy Smith (Chris), and Andrew Fox (Crystal); seven great-grandchildren, Blake Brantley, Sydney Rinck, Isabella Hutchison, Baylor Rinck, Caroline Hutchison, Paul Fox, and Anne Fox.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Trinity United Methodist Church, immediately followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. in the church by the Rev. Charles Stacy and the Rev. Milford Rollins. Burial will follow at Smith Memorial Cemetery, Poquoson, with military honors. At other times, the family will be at the home, 120 Villa Drive, Poquoson.
