POQUOSON - William Henry "Bill" Weston Jr., 92, a native & lifelong resident of Poquoson, passed away January 20, 2013. He was a 1937 graduate of Poquoson High School and attended Newport News Business College. He retired in 1983 after 43 years as Foreman in X11 Shipfitters Dept. at Newport News Shipbuilding. Mr. Bill was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran with service aboard the U.S.S. Quincy, CA-71, as a Storekeeper 2nd Class in the Atlantic & Pacific theatre of operations. The Quincy carried President Roosevelt to and from the Big Three Powers Conference at Yalta. He was aboard the ship in Tokyo Bay on V-J Day for the surrender of Japan. Mr. Bill was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Poquoson, the Men's Bible Class, the United Methodist Men's Club, the Finance Committee, Administrative Board, Tabulator, and many other leadership positions. He was a member of Poquoson Masonic Lodge #49, A.F. & A.M.; American Legion Poquoson Post #273; J.O.U.A.M. Lodge, Yorktown Council #66; Poquoson McDonalds Coffee Club; U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation, Washington D.C.; and the U.S.S. Quincy Reunion Committee. Mr. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Mater Virginia & William H. Weston Sr., and brothers, Estrich Goodwin Weston and John Weston. He is survived by his nieces, Patricia Johnson & husband, Walter of New Jersey, and Ann Stratton & husband, John of Poquoson; a cousin, Estrich W. "Junie" Page of Poquoson; beloved friends and neighbors, Pat & Bernie Clark; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. The family will receive friends tonight, 7-8:30 PM, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, 11:00 AM, at Trinity United Methodist Church by Rev. George T. Insley Jr. and Rev. Milford C. Rollins, with Masonic rites and American Legion honors. Burial will follow at Weston Cemetery, Poquoson, with Navy honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1294 Poquoson Ave., or to Poquoson Volunteer Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 2099, both in Poquoson, VA, 23662.
