William Hugh "Bill" Sylvia, Jr., 81, a native of Richmond and Poquoson resident for 40 years, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, July 18, 2018. He served his country in the U. S. Army retiring honorably as a Lt. Col. in 1982. After his retirement, Bill served his community as the owner and editor of the Poquoson Island Times and as the Magistrate for Poquoson and York County. He also loved to travel, loved dogs, and never said "no" to an offer of chocolate. Bill was preceded in death in April of this year by his loving wife of 58 years, Linda H. Sylvia. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Sylvia McCall of Yorktown; sons, Richard W. Sylvia of Poquoson and John B. Sylvia of Macungie, PA; grandchildren, Amanda McCall, Sara Benton, Leanne Sylvia, and Meredith, Ryan, and Evan Sylvia; and great-grandchildren, Alexis and Kennedy Benton. A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held Tuesday, July 24, 12:00 Noon, at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd., Suffolk, VA 23434. The family will receive friends at a reception the same day from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the Villas Clubhouse, 100 Villa Drive, Poquoson. Claytor Rollins Funeral Home is in charge. To the families and friends of William Hugh "Bill" Sylvia Jr. Today, I just want to send my deepest condolences to the families. We all lose love ones in death and its a very difficult time. I just want to send these few encouraging words. Please allow God to strengthen you in your grief. He is a God of great comfort and peace.

Virginia will always be my home but now I live in Harrisburg Pa.
