POQUOSON - William "Bill" Lawton Sellers, III, 69, died peacefully Friday, August 19, at his home in Poquoson, Virginia, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born on August 14, 1947 in Miami, Florida, to William Sellers, Jr. and Lorraine Sellers. Bill attended Cocoa Beach High School in Cocoa Beach, Florida, graduating in 1965. He then attended Brevard Junior College for two years before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served on an Admiral's staff in Norfolk, Virginia, completing a total of more than six years active and reserve duty. He attended the University of Florida and earned both a Bachelor's Degree of Science, and a Master's Degree of Science in Aerospace Engineering in 1975. While completing his studies, Bill married the love of his life, Bonnie King, in Homestead, Florida in 1974. Upon graduation, Bill joined the Boeing Corporation in Seattle, Washington, as an Aerospace Engineer. He conducted extensive aerospace research on prototype aircraft. During his time in Seattle, he and Bonnie were blessed with son Kenneth in 1977, and daughter Wendy in 1979. Bonnie worked in Seattle as a medical technologist. In 1981, the Sellers family moved to Poquoson, where Bill began working as a research aerospace engineer for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. His love of all things aeronautical led him to earn his private pilot's license and to craft many designs of modern aircraft. After 28 years of service for NASA, Bill retired and continued aerospace research work as a contractor at AS&M until his death. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William Lawton Sellers, Jr., and by mother-in-law, Evelyn King. He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie, his mother Lorraine Sellers, sisters Barbara Comeau, Theresa Williams, and Cheryl Comeau. He is also survived by his son Kenneth, daughter-in-law Cristina, and their two children Rowan and Tegan Sellers, as well as his daughter, Wendy and her partner Mark Kenyon. Bill was a loving husband, son, brother, father and grandfather who gloried in his family. He was very interested in history, movies, music, and his Catholic faith. He will be missed by his family, his many friends, and co-workers. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, August 23, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, 836 Poquoson Avenue, Poquoson. Reverend Father Robert "Bob" Spencer will celebrate a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 24, at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, 3800 Big Bethel Road, Tabb, Virginia, followed by a luncheon reception at the church. Bill's ashes will be interred in the St. Kateri Tekakwitha columbarium. The family asks that no flowers be brought to the church, and, in lieu of flowers, they encourage donations a .
