William V. EVANS Obituary
POQUOSON - William Vernard "Big Buddy" Evans, 99, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 10, 2011.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, and a member of Bethany Gospel Chapel in Newport News. He was a commercial waterman all of his working life and enjoyed working the water with his brother for many years. He was a faithful Christian since he was 12 years old and was very knowledgeable in the Bible and its teachings.
"Big Buddy" was preceded in death by his parents, Allen S. and Maude L. Evans; sisters, Beulah P. Hubbard, Beatrice Kathryn Shriver; and a brother, Allen S. Evans Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his nieces, Madge Bunting (Olen), Rose Paul (Norman), Janet Hogge, and Kathryn S. Boyd (Mark), all of Poquoson; his nephews, Grayson Ward (Becky) of Florida, Vern Ward (Beverly) of Poquoson, Allen Wayne Evans (Brenda) of Gloucester, Allie Shriver (Bonnie) of Poquoson, Henry Hubbard Jr. and John Hubbard both of Northern, Va.; sister-in-law, Frances Evans Saunders; and many other nieces, nephews, and family members.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Oct. 13, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, 836 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson, immediately followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. by Neil Goggin and Chuck Hicks, both of Bethany Gospel Chapel, and the Rev. Milford C. Rollins. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News. At other times the family will be at Kathy Boyd's home in Poquoson.
The family wished to express many thanks to all of the staff at Golden Living (Bayside) Convalescent Center. They were like extended family to him and always brightened his day.
