Shirley M. BRAIG Obituary
HAMPTON - On Saturday, May 15, 2010, the Lord called home His faithful servant, Shirley Marie Lawrence Braig.
Born July 9, 1922, at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Col., retired Abraham and Lillian Lawrence.
She attended The University of Hawaii in Honolulu and graduated from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg. A founding and longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, she taught school at St. Rose and also at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic School in Phoebus until her retirement. She was a charter member of the Wythe Woman's Club.
Mrs. Braig is survived by her husband of 67 years, Joseph Francis Braig; her daughter, Barbara Braig Ward of Fayetteville, N.C.; her granddaughter, Patricia Rau King and her husband, Kenny of Gibsonville, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Marie and Austin Brian King. She will also be missed by many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010, in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Donald J. Cavey. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
