Donald Sykes Lewis Sr.

WHITE STONE - Donald Sykes Lewis Sr., of White Stone, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, in Kilmarnock. He was the founder and President of Auslew Gallery Inc. in Norfolk and founder of Main Street Fine Art and Antique Mall in Kilmarnock. Mr. Lewis studied at Carnegie Museum School and Carnegie Institute. While managing Auslew Gallery, he also pursued a career as a fine artist, showing his work in New York City. He was a past member of the American Foundation of the Arts, the American Association of Museums, and the Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works. During World War II, he served as a counterespionage agent for the intelligence corps, ASU. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Porter Lewis; a son, Donald Sykes Lewis Jr.; a daughter, Leigh Lewis Trimble; six grandsons; and a great-grandson. Memorial services and a celebration of Donald's life will be held at the Lewis home at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3.
