Richard Sheridan Obituary

Richard (Dick) Sheridan

Parsippany - Richard (Dick) Sheridan passed away on Wednesday, November 21st 2018. He was born in Newark, New Jersey, later moved to Irvington, and eventually settled in Parsippany. He was a professional guitar player, playing and conducting for Ice Capades' national tour for four years, playing gigs as a member of the Dover and Newark Musicians' Union Locals, doing studio work with stars such as Lorne Greene and Shirley Jones, and teaching guitar privately and in local adult schools. His grandfather taught him to play the guitar at a very young age, after which Dick studied for many years with Billy Bauer, a well-known jazz guitarist with the Lennie Tristano School in NYC. Dick served in the United States Army Band for four years in Okinawa during the Korean War, playing guitar in officers' clubs and marching French horn. During the rest of his career, he worked as an expediter, then at Atlas Soundelier, and later at Foster-Wheeler Corporation in plant maintenance.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Dover, NJ, singing in the choir and playing in the bell choir and praise band. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he was much beloved and will be greatly missed.

Richard is survived by his wife of 39 years Sandra (nee-Douglas), daughter, Sarah, son Richard and daughter-in-law Rebecca, granddaughters Erin and Grace, and daughter Janice and son-in-law Nick Krasnow and his sister Charlotte Hoffman. He was predeceased by his first wife Alice (nee Fritts) and daughters Judy and Jill.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 123 East Blackwell St. (corner of Blackwell and Mercer), Dover, NJ 07801 on Monday, December 31st with family visitation at 11:00 am and worship at 11:30. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick's memory may be sent to the church and designated for Edna's Haven, the Food Cupboard, the musicians fund, or Faith Kitchen. Arrangements are under the direction of the Par-Troy Funeral Home, Parsippany. (973)887-3235 or visit www.partroyfuneralhome.com

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Sheridan's passing. I have many fond memories growing up around the corner from the family in Parsippany and had such fun with his 3 girls, Judy, Jill and Janice. My thoughts are with Janice and the family.
