AGE: 89 • Morristown

Kenneth W. Carroll, 89, passed away at Taylor Hospice in Ridley Park, PA, on Friday, March 29, 2013, after a short illness. Born on Nov. 15, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., Ken resided in Dover, N.J., for 18 years and Morristown, N.J., for 40 years. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II from 1942 - 1946 as a navigator on transport aircraft in the South Pacific, and was awarded the Air Medal for distinguished service. He attended Manhattan College on the G.I. Bill, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Chemistry in 1950. He worked as a chemist in the adhesives industry, retiring from National Starch and Chemical Company in 1988. Ken was married to Ellen E. Carroll (nee McPeak) from January 1950 until her death in March of 2011. Ken was a member of St. Margaret's Church in Morristown. He was very active in his parish, as he had been at Sacred Heart Parish in Dover previously. Community service was an important part of his life. He was a Eucharistic Minister in his parish, bringing the Sacrament of Communion to patients at Morristown Memorial Hospital where he also served as a Chaplain's Assistant. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Morristown Community Soup Kitchen for 13 years, and at the Morris County Homeless Shelter.

He is survived by his three children: Kenneth R. Carroll and his wife, Nancy; Kathleen M. Lamken; and John T. Carroll and his wife, Maureen; seven grandchildren: Daniel Lamken and his wife, Jen; Andrew Lamken and his wife, Jess; James Carroll; Margaret Tedesco and her husband, Dan; Elizabeth Carroll; Kenneth Lamken; and Molly Carroll; four great-grandchildren: Ian, Fin, Katherine and Emily Lamken: and his brothers: Robert and his wife June; Charles; and Dennis. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Ellen E. Carroll; three infant children, James, Denise, and Maryann; and his sister, Virginia.

Viewing will be at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Ave., Morris Plains, N.J., on Friday, April 5, from 3 until 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret's Church, 6 Sussex Ave., Morristown, N.J., on Saturday, April 6th, at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Margaret's Church in Morristown.
