Marceil Letts Obituary
Parsippany - Marceil "Mimi" Letts passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019. She was 80.
Mimi was born in Pittsburgh in 1939, one of five children of Cecelia and Robert Fleming. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1961 with a major in mathematics and went into the computer industry, working for the computer division of RCA where she met her husband, Howard. They were married in 1963 and three sons Howard, Robert and Eric.
Mimi and Howard lived in Pittsburgh, then Maryland and in 1967 came to Parsippany where Mimi became active in local activities. She served on the township Planning Board, was President of the Board of Directors of the Parsippany-Troy Hills Senior Citizen Housing Corp.(which built and manages the Brookside Senior Complex), served on the Zoning Board of Adjustment and was a member of the Parsippany Historical Society and the Kiwanis Club. In addition, she was a member of the NJ Highlands Council and Morris Tomorrow.
Mimi continued her career in technology once her children were in school, designing and implementing large scale computer applications for major corporations.
She ran unsuccessfully in 1985 for Parsippany town council and in 1993 for mayor. She was elected Mayor of Parsippany in 1994 and served until she retired at the end of 2005.
Mrs. Letts is survived by her husband of 56 years Howard, her sons Howard of Charleston SC, Robert and his wife Kim of Marietta GA, Eric and his wife Allissa of Jupiter FL and 7 grandchildren, Diana, Victoria, Abigail, Zachary, David, Alexander and Rebecca. She is also survived by her brother David Fleming of Cocoa Beach FL, sisters Patricia Cohick of Williamsport, PA and Kathleen Loriso of Clinton PA.
Relative and friends are invited to attend her Liturgy of Christian Burial 9:30 am Thursday, September 19, 2019, at St. Christopher R.C.Church 1050 Littleton Road, Parsippany. Entombment: Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visitation Wednesday from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Par-Troy Funeral Home 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany (973) 887-3235 or visit us at www.partroyfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers please make donations in her memory to Parsippany Child Day Care Center 300 Baldwin Road Parsippany, NJ 07054

My heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to to the family and friends of Mayor Mimi Letts. I have not come across a person of greater integrity, wisdom, honesty than Mayor Letts and yet she was alway warm and friendly in her interactions. She was a progressive par excellence, - in its most thoughtful and caring tradition. Mimi was very proud of the town which under her leadership of over a decade attained the status of top 20 best places to live in America! I am profoundly saddened by her passing away which is our town's irreplaceable loss. She was such a great asset to Parsippany which she nurtured. To me, Mimi was Parsippany, - and its brightest star! Let Letts' light from Havens always shine bright on Parisppany!

We mourn the death of our good friend Mimi Letts and send sympathy and love to Howard and the rest of her family. She was a tireless worker for the causes in which she believed. What a privilege to have known her.

I'm blessed to have worked for you for the past 10 years now and always looked forward to your cleaning day. You were such a humble and nice person thank you for everything and I pray that your soul rests in eternal peace. I believe a bit more now the old saying that the best leave us sooner !! Will continue to have Mr. Letts and the family in my prayers, and you will be very much missed and forever remembered . RIP Mrs. Letts

Mimi is remembered as full of life, energy, good humor, as well as being gifted and willing to share her abilities. In high school days she was a spark of fun. I can see her dancing now to the music of the day. What a blessing Mimi must have been as a wife, and mother. My sympathy to you.
