I thought Romy White and Michele Weinberger invented Post-It Notes! (Hopefully you get a chuckle out of that reference.) I appreciate knowing the name of the real innovator. I admire people who have the intelligence and imagination to create things that make our lives easier. Rest in peace, Mr. Silver; my condolences to your family and friends.

I have always treasured the memory of meeting Spencer when he and his wife Linda hosted an evening for the Ojai Poetry Festival. We had a marvelous, long conversation, and I was in awe of actually speaking to the person who'd invented such a staple of my own and everyone's work life. (I mark the poems I'm going to read at an event with the ubiquitous colored flags, changing them from reading to reading.) He was gracious, warm, an engineer who loved poetry, and a walking medical pioneer as well. It was only one evening's conversation, but memorable for a lifetime. My deep condolences to those who knew and loved him.

Spence & Linda were the couple who helped us put together the OJAI POETRY FESTIVAL ( May 16 - 17 2003 ) in Libbey Bowl - along with key organizer - Jim Lenfesty - which featured Robert Bly ( The Norskee from Minnesota ) - Coleman Banks & Jane Hirshfield.

They also hosted the special dinner for the poets at their home.

As a result we became good friends.

They moved from Ojai to Bainbridge Island - where we visited them prior to our moving here on Whidbey Island. Then - sadly - they moved back to Minnesota.

Spence & Linda were a fabulous couple.

Spence was also a very talented artist.

May he Rest in Peace.

Our thots & prayers are with the Silver family.
