Carmine Frank "Gotch" Malanka

AGE: 87 • Parsippany

Carmine Frank "Gotch" Malanka, 87, died peacefully at home under VNA of Northern NJ Hospice care, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. Carmine was born in Union City, NJ and was a longtime resident of the Rainbow Lakes in Parsippany, NJ. He was a graduate of St. Michael's High School, Union City, where he played football and forged lifelong friendships. He attended NYU, and became a licensed professional engineer. Carmine served in the U.S. Navy Seabees', he was a Pharmacist's Mate Third Class assigned to the 67th Construction Battalion that constructed the air strips used for the Enola Gay airstrike on Hiroshima. He received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for Heroism, and was a true patriot his whole life with a deep love of God and Country.

Following his military service he joined the family business, C.F. Malanka and Sons in Union City, as company engineer and later president. His second "career" was devoted to Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Department who in October 2011 honored him for 50 years of service. He served as Chairman of the Parsippany Troy Hills Planning Board and was active in the solid waste and resource recovery organizations in central New Jersey.

Carmine played semi-professional football in the New England League, and later played softball with the fire company. Through the years he was often seen at the community club's tennis court or swimming with his children. He especially enjoyed playing pinochle at the firehouse. He loved playing the piano, good conversations, and watching wildlife, especially birds around his home. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, Rainbow Lakes Community Club, and St. Catherine of Siena Church.

Carmine was predeceased by his beloved wife Teresa in 1983.

Carmine is survived by his seven children, Phyllis and her husband Mark, Dawn, Daniel and his wife Rhoda, Carmen, Mark and his wife Kimm, Christian and Stephen, and his grandchildren, Camille, Teresa, Joseph, Nicholas, Anthony, Jake, Stephanie, and Carmine, and his beloved sister and best friend Concetta Agostini and his beloved brother Anthony, as well as his many nieces and nephews and cousins. He enjoyed many years of the loving companionship of June Barrell. He was an avid dancer and made enduring friendships wherever he and June went.

Carmine's funeral service will be held at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ www.normandean.com, (please light a candle in memory of Carmine on website), on Wednesday September 5th at 11AM, entombment committal service at Holy Rood Mausoleum, Morristown, NJ. Relatives and friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday September 4th from 4-8pm. The family suggests donations to the Wounded Warriors Project or the Firemen's Home in Boonton.

He remained a part of the fabric of the Rainbow Lakes Community since 1956 and loved his wonderful neighbors and friends, never taking for granted those who contributed to his life experience.

Carmine gave me my first job as a mechanics helper at his father`s company CF Milanka & Sonswhile he was the president He was a very good man. I consider him a mentor a man with honor and dignity. I wish I would´ve known of his passing. God love you and your forever missed.

Christian and family;

After reading about Mr. Malank's life, it is clear to me that anyone who knew him, was indeed blessed for having him in their life.
