Margaret Hillert Obituary
HILLERT, MARGARET, age 94, passed away peacefully in her home on October 11, 2014. She was born in Saginaw to Ilva and Edward Hillert. She is survived by her brother Richard (Del) Hillert of Florida; and predeceased by her brother Edward (Prudy) Hillert. Also surviving are a nephew, John (Gay) Hillert; and two nieces, Mary Kraniak and Kris Lundy; and a cousin, Joyce Hillert. Margaret received a Nursing Degree from U of M and a teaching degree from Wayne State University. She taught 1st Grade for Royal Oak Public Schools for 34 years. A noted writer of children’s literature, she authored more than 80 Beginning Reader Books including a series titled “Dear Dragon” as well as poetry. Margaret will be remembered for her commitment to literacy and poetry as well as her love of cats. She will be missed by many, especially friends Glenna Washburn, Carol Coury, Cindy Stevens, Judy Crawford, Perry Edgel, Danalee Henkart, Maggie and John Zysk; stepdaughter Tal Roth; and caregivers Mya and Marquita. Visitation Friday, October 17, 2014 from 1 p.m. until time of funeral service at 4 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 West Eleven Mile Road (4 blocks East of Woodward), Royal Oak, Michigan. Memorials in Margaret’s honor to the Michigan Humane Society or an animal .
