OPELOUSAS - A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard Soileau will be held on Wednesday December 12, 2012 at 10:00am at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel, with Fr. Gary Schexnayder as the celebrant. The interment will take place at Bellevue Memorial Park.
Mr. Soileau, age 82, a resident of Opelousas was born on January 5, 1930 in " Moundville" and died on Friday December 7, 2012 at Opelousas General Health System.
He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Daily World as a pressman after 37 years of service. He loved his family, hunting, fishing, cooking, gardening, and taking care of his orange trees.
His survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Mrs. Roselyn Lavergne Soileau of Opelousas, son, Ricky Soileau and wife Phylis of Grand Coteau, daughter, Jeannine Soileau Allen and husband Pat of Conroe, TX, brother, Gilbert Soileau of Richmond, VA, sister, Mrs. Amy Veillon of Lafayette, 5 grandchildren, Kris McCoy and wife Joslyn of Maurice, LA, Mrs. Amanda Parler and husband Brad of Tomball, TX, Joel Allen and Nathan Allen both of Conroe, TX and Emily Allen of Spring, TX and 6 great grandchildren, Ethan McCoy, Reagan McCoy both of Maurice, Celeste Parler, Ben Parler, Alissa Parler and Evangeline Parler all of Tomball, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Emily Soileau and his sisters, Mrs. Mary Manuel and Mrs. Ella Mae "Nan" Kerr.
The family has requested the visitation be held on Tuesday December 11, 2012 from 3:00pm until 9:00pm and will reopen at 8:00am on Wednesday until time of services. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 7:00pm. The Pallbearers will be Kris McCoy, Joel Allen, Nathan Allen, Phil Dupre, Dale Ortego, and Gene Dupre. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Manuel and Paul Manuel. Family and friends are invited to view and sign the online guestbook at www.lafondardoin.com.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Patrick Gillespie, Dr. Eric Amy, and Allie Richard, PCU nurse for their kindness and compassionate care.
