GILES, , MSGT MICHAEL ALLENWas born on September 10, 1959 in Monroe, Louisiana. He was baptized and attended church at Old Macedonia Baptist Church in Gilbert, Louisiana. He attended his younger years of education in Gilbert, Louisiana and later years in Dallas, Texas graduating from David W. Carter High School in 1977. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on December 20, 1978. While serving in the USAF, he was awarded the following: AF Commendation Medal w/ 1 OLC, Meritorious Service Medal, AF Longevity Service award w/3 OLC, AF Training Ribbon, AF Overseas Short Tour Ribbon w/ 1 OLC, AF Overseas Long Tour Ribbon w/ 1 OLC, and National Defense Service Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon/Rifle, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, AF Outstanding Unit Award w/2 OLC, AF Good conduct Medal w/5 OLC. He was educated in the military receiving the following: General Weight & Balance, 1993; Helicopter Weight & Balance, 1993; USAF Senior NCO Academy, 1990; OJT Workcenter/Section Supervisor, 1989; UH-60 Helicopter Tech Organizations 1 Maintenance, 1989; NCO Leadership Sch, 1987; ACFT Pneudraulic Repair Tech, 1985; OJT Supervisors Orientation Crs, 1983; Supervisors Crs, 1982; Helicopter Tech, 1981; NCO Orientation crs, 1979; and Helicopter Mechanic, Fully Articulated Rotor, 1979. He also furthered his education through the Dallas County Community College District receiving an Associates Degree in the Computer Information Technology field. He was passionate in furthering his education and working towards his Masters Degree. He also enjoyed playing basketball, football, reading, exercising, and spending time with his family and friends. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of active duty service, he was employed at Southwestern Bell. He was preceded in death by his sister, Robin R. Brawhaw. He is survived by his mother, Jannie Giles Smith; brothers, John H. Giles and Larry S. Giles; sisters, Gwendolyn J. McShan, Cheryl L. Smith-Evans; nephews, Derrick L. Brawhaw, Darrius L. Feggett, and Jamal M. Evans; nieces, Vanessa L. Brawhaw, Ebony L. Brawhaw, and Ariel R. Robinson; great neice, Derricka Brawhaw; and a host of other relatives and friends. Memorial Service Friday, November 9, 2007 at 11:00 am at Golden Gate Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
