Dorothy Lothrop Obituary

Dorothy Lothrop
June 15, 1923 - January 2, 2019 Dorothy Elizabeth Zuck Lothrop, a former 30-year resident of Westport and wife of the late James Denny Lothrop, died peacefully on January 2, 2019, in her home at Atria Darien, CT. She was 95 years old.
Dorothy was born on June 15, 1923 in Evanston, Illinois to Ralph Everett and Marion Ethel Patterson Zuck. She spent her childhood living in the same home, next door to her best friend, and surrounded by a large extended family. Ever energetic, resourceful and spirited, Dot was appropriately nicknamed "Flash" by her father. At the University of Illinois, she met her fellow Evanstonian and future husband, Jim Lothrop. Throughout her life she embraced travel, reading, gardening, the arts, dance, yoga, sailing, golf, and deep friendships wherever she lived. Quilting and the study of metapsychology and spiritual growth were particular passions. Above all else, her family was the true center of her life. Hers and Jim's homes were always hospitality centers and havens for generations of family and friends.
Dorothy leaves behind two daughters and a son: Barbara Cross and husband William of Westport, James Lothrop, Jr. and wife, Pamela (Haywood) of Westport, and Nancy Lothrop and husband, Robert Docters of New Canaan; grandchildren Todd (Estee), Brian (Katherine), and Kevin (Melanie) Cross, Lisa Tilstone (Luke Rodwell), and Ainsley and James III (Julie) Lothrop; as well as great-grandchildren Nicholas, Isabella, Emmett, Grace, Gabriel, Julia, and George Cross, and Jake Rodwell.
Her sister, Virginia Ann Gardiner and brother, Stuart Harmon Zuck, predeceased her.
A memorial service in celebration of Dorothy will be held at the Congregational Church of Green's Farms on March 23, 2019, at 11:00. The Harding Funeral Home in Westport, CT is assisting the family with the arrangements. Condolences for the family may be left on line at www.hardingfuneral.com.
