Valentine John Scansaroli
Valentine "Val" John Scansaroli, 69, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020 at his residence in Norwalk, Connecticut. Val was born on August 5, 1951 to the late John J. Scansaroli and Evelyn Nicholson Scansaroli.
Val grew up in Flushing, New York and graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1969. He attended Hartwick College where he played basketball and acquired his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. He later received his Master's Degree from University of New Haven.
Val's professional career spanned nearly fifty years in the publishing and printing industries which included Ziff Davis, Hearst, Meredith Corporation, Time Inc., World Color, and more recently, his own consultancy business, Publishers' Local Networks.
He is survived by his devoted partner Abbie Van Nostrand of Darien, Connecticut; his son Christopher Scansaroli of Brooklyn, New York; his sister Sheila Palmiotto of Ellicott City, Maryland and her family: husband Michael Palmiotto, and children Nicole, Michael and Dana; brother Michael N. Scansaroli of Apopka, Florida; Abbie's sons: Jamie, Tad and Philip Schwartz; "fraternity brothers" and countless friends; and his mischievous rescue beagle, Wally.
Val is fondly remembered for his amusing anecdotes, his passion for golf, sports and competition, his entertaining knowledge of trivia, his "huge" heart and caring spirit.
A private funeral service will be held at St. John Church in Darien, Connecticut on Thursday, October 8, 2020 and a celebration of life will be planned for 2021. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lawrence Funeral Home of Darien, Connecticut (www.lawrencefuneralhome.com).

God rest his soul. I remember Val as a gentle young man who loved basketball. (We both graduated from Holy Cross in 1969). Just a blink Val..

I met Val when we attended Hartwick College together. As a fellow Type 1 diabetic we had many things in common, though physical prowess wasn't one of them. He outshone me in any sport except perhaps darts. We eventually roomed together in college and joined the same fraternity. We lost touch after school as I moved to Colorado following my parents (father had been transferred). Despite our disease, or maybe in spite of it, we were drinking buddies in school. I remember his diabetes was a bit more fragile than my own, but it never slowed him down. In the years after school I once drove cross-country to spend a week with him, his parents and his sister. Good times, and a very good man, well-remembered.

Val and I first met at Ziff Davis back in the late '70's. At the time Val's enthusiasm, professionalism and hard work made him stand out from a pack of bright young people. He had an intuitive knack for doing the right thing and for grasping the big picture.

Although I haven't seen him in many years I continued to follow his professional path with great interest. I'm so pleased he had a beautiful career in the magazine industry. He made an enduring name for himself for integrity and hard work. He was a pro's pro, just as he was, from day one at Ziff Davis. But perhaps most importantly he showed great spirit and perseverance in the face of a difficult illness. This must have been very inspirational for his family and love ones, as it was to his many friends.

My condolences to Abbie and Christopher for your loss - Val was a wonderful human being.

Val and I first met at Camp NYDA when we were 14 years old. Both Val and I had juvenile diabetes and the camp was a month long session to learn more about our disease; eventually we became counselors in training together. In addition to the disease we also learned a great deal about each other. Val was a great guy and we became fast friends. Four years later we became roommates at Hartwick College and stayed in touch all through the years.

Now---55 years later-- it is very difficult to say good bye to my life long friend who was smart, funny, entertaining and immensely loyal. RIP VAL.

I am very sorry to hear of Val's passing. Val and I grew up together in Flushing. We attended St Andrew Avelino grade school and Holy Cross HS.
We played sports together ( in grade school) and I take credit for introducing Val to basketball. He always far outpaced me in sports ! Val's family had a very positive influence on me. I still shake hands with youngsters the way his father shook my hand!
May he rest in Peace.
