News Death Notice

HARTZELL, Catharine June age 97 of Long Beach, MS, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014. She was born June 18, 1917 in Farmersville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Joseph Raymond & Pearl Augusta (Linebaugh) Heiney. Mrs. Hartzell was a native of the Farmersville and Ellerton areas, she lived in New Lebanon, Trinity Community Homes of Beavercreek United Church Homes; Gonzales, LA; Gulfport, MS and Long Beach, MS; she also enjoyed summers in Northern Michigan annually and traveled to England. She was a graduate of Jefferson Township High School Class of 1937. Catharine received training from the Court Reporting School, and training with Ohio School Treasurers and advanced accounting classes. She was a School Board Treasurer for Jefferson Township Schools and Trotwood Madison City Schools with over 40 years of service as well as a member of both School Boards, a member of the Family Worship Center, Gulfport, MS, Ellerton United Church of Christ until 2002, an Emeritus Member of Altrusa International of Dayton, Ohio 4-H Club Congress September, 1933, a member of church consistory and provided generous support to family and friends. Mrs. Hartzell enjoyed sewing, tailoring, knitting and reading biographies. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert E. Hartzell, brother Paul Heiney, sister-in-law Marguerite Heiney, sisters Margaret Hawkins, Zelda Heiney Rathweg, son-in-law Larry Jay Minzey, best friend Zenda Horn. Survivors include her 2 sons and daughters-in-law, James & Pam, Hartzell of Dayton, Steve & Vickie Hartzell of Houston, TX, daughter, Jean Ann Minzey of Long Beach, MS, grandchildren Rob & Laura Hartzell of Cincinnati, Stephen Hartzell of Fredericksburg, MD, Mike & Kim Shotts of Dayton, great grandchildren Isabella & Ethan Hartzell, Elizabeth & Quentin Shotts, and Taylor Harris, nieces and nephews Becky Stout, John & Barbara Gilbert, Bob & Linda Dixon, Paul Truax, Kathleen & Butch Schaff, Maureen Lancaster, Sydney Hawkins, Jack Hawkins, and Joan Caldwell. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ellerton Cemetery, Moraine, OH, with Pastor David Swartz officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, July 21, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the SWART & WOLFE FUNERAL HOME, West Carrollton. The family gives Todd Sichta, Donzella Riley, Barbara Jefferson, Faye Breland, Irdean Smith and everyone else who care for Catharine their greatest gratitude.
